Applegate Runs From Bears
Actress Christina Applegate had to run for her life on the set of
new comedy Anchorman when a scene in a bear pit turned nasty.
The Sweetest Thing star had to team up with four trained kodiak
bears for a scene in the film, but one of the beasts didn't take to
his human colleague.
She recalls, "They had on the call sheets that you can't wear
perfume, you can't eat around the bears or anything like that, so
you know this is serious business."
"I'm standing in this pit with four kodiak bears and I'm supposed to
be screaming up for help and they told me 'Don't make any loud
noises because they don't like loud noises either.'
"So I started whispering, 'Help,' and I could see that the one bear
next to me was a bit fidgety, he wasn't really listening to the
trainers... and the next thing I know he charges me."
"I ran with my pants on fire. I ran so fast and I kept
thinking, 'You're not supposed to run, right? You're supposed to lay
down and tuck and roll or play dead,' and this whole dialogue is
going on in my head.
"They're wild animals. That's what I kept trying to tell everyone
that they're still bears, they're not actors."
